PLANS to put Derker’s “spatial masterplan” into action were given the thumbs up on Wednesday despite calls from local residents to halt the regeneration and consider the impact on passing traffic.
As the Chronicle reported last week, residents close to the London Road site — now set to hold 165 new houses — say they have come to like the open space and green areas since houses were demolished eight years ago.
But councillors passed the plans last night, saying the opportunity for families and first-time buyers to invest is a priority.
Residents initially complained about the area, saying it had become a wasteland, but Guinness Northern Counties together with developers Keepmoat have since put together the modern plans and hope to begin work in the next two months.
