UP to 200 jobs could be created after groundbreaking proposals to transform Oldham’s dormant town hall into a leisure and cinema complex were given the green light last night.
The plans, include an eight-screen cinema complex, food outlets and shops.
The building has already been made weather tight and cleaned.
Council leader Jim McMahon, who has supported the project from the start and referred to the redevelopment as a catalyst for the town, is delighted to see the plans given unanimous approval.
He said: “We don’t want a town centre that just looks like any other town centre.
“This is about Oldham trying to rediscover itself.”
