Remembrance service for Nicola
Date published: 21 September 2012
OLDHAMERS are invited to attend a remembrance service for murdered policewoman Nicola Hughes at Kiln Green Church, Diggle, on Sunday at 9.30am.
A book of condolence will later be put on display for the public to sign.
The Rev Duncan Rhodes said: “The church will be open from 1-5pm on each of the coming Sundays, September 23 and 30.”
Kiln Green Church is at the top of Diggle village, close to the Diggle Hotel and the old railway station.
Nicola (23) — who lived in Diggle with her mother — and her colleague PC Fiona Bone were killed on Tuesday during a gun and grenade attack.
A book of condolence set up by Greater Manchester Police has received more than 33,500 messages.
More than 21,000 messages have also been posted on the force’s Facebook page.
A former teacher of Nicola’s told the Chronicle: “She was a really lovely girl. If you could fill a school you would choose 1,000 Nicola Hughes every time. It’s just awful.”
