LITTLE and large: towering Joe O’Regan with four-year-old Ben Greenwood
OLYMPIAN Joe O’Regan dazzled youngsters at St Joseph’s School, Shaw, with stories about his Games experience.
The 21-year-old waterpolo star — a towering presence at 6ft 9in — captured pupils’ imagination and fired their enthusiasm.
Deputy head teacher Steve Hill, said: “Joe is a past pupil of mine from SS Aidan and Oswald RC Primary School and it was great to hear from him following the Olympics and fantastic of him to agree to come in and speak to the children.
“He’s a smashing young man and a great role model. Joe spoke in assembly about his life in sport, about how and when he started playing water polo at Royton, his training regime and about his recent experiences at London 2012.
“The children then had the opportunity to ask him lots of questions. It was a fantastic experience for them to be able to meet a true Olympian. “The children were in awe, and totally inspired by him.”
