What a great party

DELPH’S “Party in the Park” was a resounding success, and jubilant organisers say plans for the 2013 party are already under way.

A near sell-out of what has rapidly become one of the highlight’s in the Saddleworth village’s social calendar, saw in the region of 1,900 people enjoy a packed programme of music and entertainment at Delph and Dobcross Cricket Club on Saturday.

The amount of entertainment onstage, boosted to mark the Queen’s Jubilee year, forced the party to over-run by an hour and Phil Beck, one of the organising Wake Up Delph team, apologised to people who had to leave and missed the event’s grand finale, a firework display.

Seven acts, ranging from the Giddy Gringos salsa band, Delph Brass Band, and local singer/songwriter Morgan, to Bob Marley tribute artist Tanni, Richie Sampson’s tribute to The Drifters, Robbie Williams tribute artist Danny Lowrey, and Mercury, the Queen tribute band, brought the house down.

A mystery artist, kept closely under wraps until the night, was Chloe, who gave one of her first outdoor concerts, and is tipped by Phil as the next big thing to reach the top.

Phil said: “It was a tremendous night.”

Proceeds from the event, which are still being counted, were described as “substantial,”

There was a moving show of respect for the two police officers killed in Hattersley last week from the landlord of The Bull’s Head, Delph, where one of the victims — PC Nicola Hughes — used to work.
