Determined fundraisers have finally hit their ambitious £30,000 target to buy a new “Royal Rover” minibus.
The vehicle, due to arrive in November, will ferry patients, visitors and staff around the sprawling Royal Oldham Hospital site. The current bus has been on the verge of failure for some time.
The Royal Oldham Hospital League of Friends stepped in to help two years ago and pledged to raise the £30,000 needed.
Though tough going in a terrible economic climate the group has reached the target and is looking forward to seeing the new minibus pick up its first passengers.
Delighted group secretary Rose Hall said: “The people of Oldham are really generous and we are just so thankful we can keep the much-needed service going.”
She said the 20-strong group of women was “thrilled to bits” with the success of the appeal.
