Jane Sheard —100 today
AN Oldhamer celebrating her 100th birthday has put her long years down to “clean living”.
Methodist Jane Sheard celebrated the milestone today after a century without smoking or drinking.
Jane, who was born and brought up in Shore Edge, worked in a textile mill before marrying her husband Harold in 1933. The pair set up a haulage company together — H Sheard Ltd of Shaw — and Jane ran the administration side while bringing up two children. The pair also ran High Crompton post office together for 18 months in the early Fifties.
Jane, a grandmother of five and great-grandmother of 10, was widowed 47 years ago, and has lived at Avonleigh care home for four years.
She received her message from the Queen today at the Clyde Street nursing home while surrounded by family, staff and friends.
Daughter-in-law Jean said: “We still go out three times a week for coffee. She’s amazing.”
