Caller rang 999 over 250 times

A DELUSIONAL woman who dialled 999 more than 250 times has been given a six-month community order.
June Chadwick (53), of Falkirk Street, Greenacres, admitted making 11 abusive calls to Greater Manchester Police operators between August 2010 and October 2011. But the court was told she had actually made over 250 calls, in which she told police about events she had seen on TV or in the newspapers. Even after the court case had been brought, she made 19 calls.
Alan Pope, prosecuting, said the “ranting”, alcohol-induced calls ranged from a minute to 18 minutes long and were abusive and included threats to kill.
In previous hearings, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) had made an ASBO application to protect the public. Police often visited her address to warn her about her behaviour.
Chris Fallows, defending, said: “I found 11 which I thought were abusive. Most of the calls were made because my client had a real concern people were suffering and being killed by acts of violence or through unfortunate circumstances. Her intention was to assist the police.”
In a report Chadwick was described as suffering delusional thinking and of being “vulnerable”, but not as having severe mental health problems.
Judge James Prowse warned Chadwick that a repeat of her behaviour would see her brought back to court.
