Farewell: Alan Smethurst (left) with colleagues and director Robin Eglin
ALAN Smethurst loves his job so much he’s worked at the same Oldham firm for 47 years.
But on Friday the 63 year old from Lees retired from OMC Ford to spend more time with his wife Christine.
Alan started at the Manchester Road company as an apprentice mechanic at 15, but has done several jobs over the years.
Director Robin Eglin said: “I interviewed him for his first job here.
“Over the years he has been a hard-working and loyal person. He’s seen a lot of changes in this company.”
Alan follows in the footsteps of his former colleagues John Needham and Geoff Muncaster who retired from OMC Ford two years ago, after racking up almost a century of service between them.
