Former GB captain Paul Sculthorpe loves the new sports facilities
FORMER Great Britain rugby captain Paul Sculthorpe has given the new Waterhead Academy the seal of approval.
Paul (35), who has captained both Britain and St Helens, was taken on a tour of the school, which brings together former pupils of Breeze Hill and Counthill Schools.
Oldhamer Paul began his glittering career at Counthill.
The former Waterhead lad was given a tour ahead of the school’s official opening next month.
“The facilities at Counthill were good and there was a real focus on sports. But the facilities at the new school are fantastic, really impressive.
“There’s something for everyone, from the climbing wall to the dance studio to the BMX track.”
Paul, whose parents still live in Waterhead, attended Counthill until 1993.
He signed for Warrington at 14 and moved to St Helens in a world record-breaking deal. He went on to captain the team and Great Britain.
He now runs a coaching company and continues to work full-time at St Helens.
The new school will officially open on Wednesday, November 7.
