THREE firms have been shortlisted to take on Oldham Council’s new leisure contract when the present on expires in March.
Oldham Community Leisure (OCL) currently runs the borough’s sports and leisure facilities on behalf of the council. OCL is one of the three bidders, with newcomers Sport and Leisure Management Ltd (SLM) and Parkwood Leisure. The council will make a decision in December.
SLM was founded in 1987 and manages 18 local authority contracts and 60 sites across the country.
Parkwood operates 84 leisure facilities for 27 clients and employs 4,500 people.
incumbent OCL has a £7million turnover, tripled in eight years.
The new contract is a key part of the wider review of the leisure estate which was the subject of a public consultation in late 2010.
