Date published: 09 October 2012
OLDHAM’S new Metrolink line has won an award.
The network’s newest line, which opened in June, earned the UK Project of the Year award at the national Light Rail Awards.
It capped a night of celebration for Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM), which also won the Best Customer Initiative award, two employee awards and commendations in other categories.
Philip Purdy, TfGM’s Metrolink director, also received a special mention in the judges’ Special Award for Outstanding Achievement.
Councillor Andrew Fender, chairman of the TfGM Committee, said: “These awards are a fantastic validation of the work we are doing to transform the Metrolink network, the way we are doing it and the teams helping us to do it.”
