POLICE have struck gold in their mission to target dodgy scrap-metal dealers in Greater Manchester.

Officers raided 64 dealers, recovered stolen metals from five and made 11 arrests for metal and other thefts and other offences in their latest series of raids, last week.

More than 100 officers and as 11 special constables were involved in the day of action. Recovered items included overhead power cables, metal cages, copper and beer kegs identified by engineers from utility, transport and telecoms companies.

Operation Alloy was set up last year to tackle a rise in metal thefts. The action days are set to continue for several months.
