Tram fares increase put back in network

THE cost of tram travel is going up — to support the expanding Metrolink network.
Fares will increase by an average of around four per cent in January.
Ticket income helps to run and improve the network and assists the £1.4 billion expansion bringing trams to Oldham and other local towns.
The expanded network will be served by a fleet of 94 new trams following the decision to replace all 32 of the older, less reliable units by 2014 — the same year Oyster-style smartcards will be introduced.
Ticket prices will rise from January. Child fares will be frozen and half of current individual fares will remain the same.
