KIND-HEARTED pupils have raised more than £18,000 for charity in a year.
Youngsters from Crompton House School have made a record £18,221 from a year of head-shaves, baked bean baths and concerts. At their most recent event 16 acts sang and danced at a “Crompton’s Got Talent” show.
A panel of well-known performers and actors – Venn Tracey, January Woodhead, Andy Lee and Kelvin Fletcher - acted as judges and helped to raise £1,270.
The money from the show — won by singer and pianist Mary Shanker — will be donated to the Christie Hospital. The school effort has been supporting the Christie all year after being touched by the plight of former pupil Thomas Harrison and his treatment there for Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
Money has also gone to several other local, national and international causes — including the Oldham Distress Fund, which help victims of the Shaw gas blast.
Head Sarah Calvert said: “Our pupils have hearts of gold.”
