THEY’RE OFF: the 300 runners begin the Milltown to Moors race on a glorious day in Oldham town centre
THEY’RE OFF . . . the 300 runners begin the Milltown to Moors race on a glorious day in Oldham town centre.
Three hundred runners tackled one of the toughest races of its kind as Oldham’s half-marathon made its return.
Supporters and volunteers lined Oldham town centre streets to cheer home participants in the 13-mile hilly, circular run.
Top athlete Andi Jones smashed the course record in 1hr 8min 15sec and fastest female Jacqui Khoueiry came home through the High Street finishing line in 1hr 34min 37sec.
The “Mill Town to Moors” race was last held in 2009 before Metrolink works forced a break.
Steve Crossman, of Glossopdale Harriers, is one athlete glad to see the event’s return.
He said: “This is not a course for beating your personal best. It’s one of toughest and hilliest courses around the UK.
All the runners love it because it’s challenging. The organisation has been marvellous and I will be coming back next year.”
Alan Keane, of co-organiser Oldham Community Leisure said: “The turn-out has been fantastic. We want to bring it back bigger next year.”
