Pub hit yet again
Date published: 23 October 2012
AN empty Hathershaw pub was set alight in the latest attack by vandals.
Firefighters were called to the Phoenix Tavern in Charlestown Road at around 7.30 last night.
The blaze caused more damage to the interior and Watch Commander Tony Morgan from Hollins station said that there had been five or six fires in the last two months.
He added: “It is becoming a problem. Nearly every bit of the pub has been set on fire at some point now.
“We do know that it has been bought and is being demolished. The sooner the better.”
