Oldham Cabinet reports
TWO hours of free parking, seven days a week, will by introduced on council-owned town centre car parks in the new year.
The three-month trial will become permanent if residents and shoppers respond, according to Oldham council leader Jim McMahon.
Thirty minutes of street parking will also be introduced from January, again on a three-month trial.
Three hours of free parking on Saturdays has returned on the council car parks leading up to Christmas, following last year’s success.
Hobson Street car park offers free parking all day on Saturdays and Sundays all year round.
The local authority leader revealed it will cost Oldham Council £500,000 a year to introduce the full scheme in 2013.
