A SCHEME to slash Oldhamers’ energy bills by up to £150 each through bulk buying has received the backing of Energy Minister Ed Davey.
Oldham Council and the Local Government Association were due to launch the Collective Energy Switching Scheme alongside the MP in London today.
Since Oldham Council announced the scheme last month, it has had interest from local authorities across the country.
Mr Davey, Energy and Climate Change Secretary, said: “I hope Oldham’s ‘Power to the People’ initiative is a big success, because I believe collective purchasing and switching schemes can mean exactly that: more power for consumers by helping them club together and use their collective muscle to get better deals for their gas and electricity.”
Oldham’s energy-switching campaign encourages residents to join together in a collective, bulk-buying scheme that can offer significant reductions on energy bills.
People sign-up to register their interest and once a group has been gathered,, council partner iChoosr will auction the business among utility companies and select the best bid
