Next stop Shaw

HEADING for Derker . . . the first tram to cross the Oldham Mumps junction
THE first tram has travelled beyond Oldham Mumps to Derker as testing on the new Metrolink line continues.
But there is still no start date for the line from Oldham to Shaw to open: transport chiefs continue to suggest the new year.
Metrolink bosses originally said the Oldham to Rochdale section would open this autumn; there has been criticism that opening after the new year will deprive businesses of Christmas sales.
Services to Rochdale are expected to open a few months later — more work is needed on the control system.
