Make mine a treble: Tokyo Project managers Johnny Davies (left) and Phil Edgehill were delighted to have plenty to celebrate at the awards.
CLUBS and pubs in Oldham town centre have celebrated this year’s winners in the Best Bar None awards.
The national scheme demands drinking venues prove their committment to the safety of customers and promote responsible standards with the aim of reducing drink-related crime.
More than 200 guests attended Royton’s Blue Tiffin to see Tokyo Project hailed not only best club, but overall winner.
One of its managers, Johnny Davies, said he was delighted by the wins.
“When we had the assessment last year there were loads of things we noticed we weren’t doing, so this year, we changed procedures to make a better night out for customers.
“Now our staff have got better morale and the general running has improved, just by doing lots of little things.”
Other winners included: Ashton Arms, which scooped the Chronicle readers’ award; Number 15, which won the best-bar gong, and Snipe Inn, hailed best pub.
Presenting the Readers’ award, Chronicle editor David Whaley said: “Bars and clubs have done a great deal to clean up up their image and Best Bar None has played a major role in this.”
Chief Supt Tim Forber, head of Oldham Police Division praised the scheme for helping improve safety in the town centre.
