Health Minister Dan Poulter’s visited a new Oldham health visitor training scheme yesterday.
Doctor Poulter said the project, funded by a £2.7million investment from Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust, was “fantastic”.
“It’s a shining example of health care”, he said. The scheme aims to boost the number of health care visitors by 4,200 across the UK before 2015.
The scheme, at the Medlock Vale Children’s Centre in the Honeywell Centre, Hathershaw, sees health professionals learning to provide advice and care for new mums and offers qualifications equivalent to a degree..
Dr Poulter, who previously worked as an obstetrician, said: “The work done here by the health visitors and the team is making a huge difference. It is important that the Government continues to invest in young families.
“Oldham can be incredibly proud of the work being done here. The Government has put a lot of money into this centre and we have seen today that it is a fantastic, shining example to the rest of the country.”
