Adam McQuillan and his mother, Anita, appealing for help to boost the youngster’s stock of toys to hand out to poorly children at Christmas.
A SELFLESS family battling the effects of a devastating road accident that left nine-year-old Adam McQuillan in hospital for eight months, is to make Christmas special for other youngsters.
The family’s lives were changed forever 13 months ago, when Adam was knocked down as he walked to a shop near his home in Roundthorn.
He spent 10 weeks in a coma, but since going home has astounded doctors with his recovery.
The youngster hit the headlines last month when he was ring-bearer at his mother Anita’s wedding to Adam Claxton.
And now he is looking forward to going back into Manchester Children’s Hospital in the few days before Christmas to hand out gifts.
He is determined to take lots of presents with him, and Adam and his mother have appealed to local businessmen and women to lend a helping hand and donate toys and books.
Anita said: “We are calling the appeal ‘Adam’s Christmas Wish,’ which is to give smiles and hope to other children.”
She explained: “It was a family idea. We came up with lots of suggestions, but this was the one Adam really wanted to do.
Young Adam has enlisted the help of Chaddy the Owl, Oldham Athletic’s mascot, to take his Christmas gifts into the hospital.
Tesco has already donated some items, and gave the youngster £50 to spend on gifts of his choice to add to the collection, and JJB Sports has donated some balls.
Anita said: “We will be visiting our old wards and talking to nurses, children and their parents so it will be quite emotional.
“What has happened to us makes you appreciate what you have. This Christmas we will appreciate the fact we are all at home together as a family and not in hospital.”
