MOVING memorial tributes for a pair of popular Failsworth councillors were officially unveiled yesterday.
The plaques commemorating Barbara Dawson and Glenys Butterworth were revealed by friends and family at a ceremony at the Grassroots smallholding scheme this week. The duo dedicated hours of their time to the project before their deaths.
At the memorial event, Oldham Civic Mayor Olwen Chadderton and council leader Jim McMahon joined members of the group in paying tribute.
Grandmother Barbara died in April after losing a long battle with cancer. Glenys died in August. Both gave up much of their time for Grassroots, a not-for-profit scheme which helps local people get physically active, meet new people, acquire skills and learn more about gardening.
