QUAGMIRE: Churchill playing fields will be out of action until September
Eight-week drainage job won’t be finished until September
CHURCHILL playing fields will remain unfit for use until next September because of the disastrous summer.
Councillors, residents and sports group representatives were invited to the Greenfield pitches yesterday to inspect progress
Consultant Rob Heath revealed that levelling work had been undertaken on some of the pitches but work had stalled because of the rain.
He said: “We started here back in March when the weather was good. It was going to be a simple six to eight-week programme.
“After two weeks the rain started to come down and we have been on and off site ever since. The aim is to get the pitches in a condition where you can play on them. Ideally the work will be done by April or May and you can hopefully use them by September.”
Councillor Barbara Beeley confirmed work will also begin on the Churchill changing rooms as part of the mass refurbishment. Updates on progress are available from the Council website www.oldham.gov.uk.
