Sahara trek in memory of colleagues
A POLICEMAN is planning an epic charity challenge in memory of Saddleworth officer Nicola Hughes.
Jon Ezard (26) will trek across the Sahara next March to raise money for the North-West Police Benevolent Fund. The fund helps the families of injured and fallen officers — like PC Hughes and colleague, PC Fiona Bone, who died on duty in Hattersley in September.
PC Ezard, an officer for five years, said: “Their deaths have really affected me and a lot of others on the force. I wanted to do something and this charity is such a good one, a bit like Help for Heroes but for police.”
Jon, who works in Eccles, is trying to raise £5,000 before he goes. For more information, go to www.facebook.com/saharatrek.
