Appeal seeks a helping hand from fans

MIDWIVES are urging Latics fans to hand over £1 to support the Royal Oldham Hospital’s ‘In Your Hands’ appeal.
In return they can have their hands digitally scanned and used in an artwork in the new women and children’s supercentre.
Scanners will be at the game against Tranmere Rovers on Saturday, and Diane Chadderton, community midwifery matron, will be among a team manning the gates to catch as many fans as possible.
She said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for the Latics faithful to become part of our new unit.“
The appeal has a £200,000 target to support the £44 million purpose-built unit, which is expected to be completed by early December. The appeal currently stands at just over £150,000. Money from the appeal will go towards additional equipment and furnishings for the new unit.
Staff and customers at Housing Units in Hollinwood have donated £10,184 to the appeal from fundraising efforts since February 2011.
Handing over the proceeds, Nick Fox, merchandise and marketing director at Housing Units, said: “We’re a family business with long and deep roots in the community. Local causes deserve every penny of support.”
