A SPECTACULAR fireworks display lit up Shaw skies and wowed hundreds.
The popular annual event at the local cricket club drew huge crowds, who were treated to a fabulous 20-minute fireworks show.
Alison Lee (29), who was there with husband Joel, and children Maisie (5) and Leon (2), said: “This year has been better than any I can remember. The fireworks were fantastic.”
Dave Andrew, a member of the club which helped organise the event, said: “Everybody seemed to have a really good time, and thanks to the police presence everybody felt safe. We like to keep it a family orientated event.
“It was very cold but luckily the rain held off, so people just kept warm around the fire. We’ll definitely be having another next year, it’s a tradition that’s been going on well over 30 years.”
ORGANISERS in Grotton had to rebuild a bonfire that had been lit a day early so their party could go ahead.
Fire crews from Oldham were called to the large bonfire at the pavilion in Station Road, Grotton on Friday night, after youngsters had set it alight. The firewood had been prepared for the event on Saturday night.
Furious residents asked for help from the community and local police to start a rebuilding effort, with requests for any spare wood.
