Sports field future is all to play for

CONTROVERSIAL plans to replace a run-down sports field at Crompton House School with an all-weather pitch will be debated by parish councillors tonight.

When plans were first proposed, neighbouring residents were concerned about noise and light pollution, parking and drainage problems.

If the proposal gets the go-ahead, the pitch will be available for hire from 8am-10pm Monday to Friday and 9am-6pm at weekends and bank holidays. The application also includes plans to increase the car park from 113 to 133 spaces.

One objector said: “As far as I can see, very little if anything has changed to appease the highlighted problems. You would have thought a church school like Crompton House would have shown more compassion towards local residents living close to this complex.”

“I hope committee members who will ultimately be making a decision will pay a site visit and have a chat with residents. This is not just another dormer or side extension but a commercial enterprise designed to make money for the school - at the cost of local residents’ quality of life.”

Though the parish council will debate the application, the final decicsion rests with Oldham council.
