AROUND 14,000 people packed into Boundary Park last night to witness the return of Oldham’s civic bonfire.
After 10 years away, the success of the event means it is likekly to now become a permanent feature of the Oldham annual calendar.
Families enjoyed stunning stilt walkers, spectacular fireshows from FlameOz, a bonfire and an explosive, 20-minute firework display.
Oldham Athletic’s sales and marketing executive and radio DJ David Broadbent kept everyone’s spirits high with uplifting tunes.
Even the freezing temperatures failed to dampen everyone’s spirit and the event got a resounding thumbs up.
Council leader Jim McMahon - there with his family - said: “I’m so proud of Oldham Council staff for the stunning return of the borough bonfire. The events are the foundation of our community. There’s lots to learn for next year but I am so pleased with the turnout.”
