Town centre tram work really making tracks
Date published: 09 November 2012
Metrolink works advancing near John Street.
WORK to bring Metrolink to Oldham town centre is rumbling on.
Major excavation was needed to create tunnels under John Street to carry tram tracks to the edge of the town centre.
Workmen are now laying tracks leading to the tunnels, though work is still needed to clear the route.
The tracks will emerge to run past the new Co-operative Funeral Service building, which is hidden in a hollow beyond the bridge.
St Patrick’s Church is in the background, on the left, surrounded by scaffolding.
FURTHER traffic changes come into force on the Manchester Street roundabout tomorrow, as one slip road opens and another closes.
The restriction on traffic joining the roundabout from Manchester Street will end but traffic will be unable to leave the roundabout on the Middleton Road/Oldham Way exit - until the end of January.
