Oldhamers quick to switch to cash-saving energy scheme

MORE than 3,900 households have so far signed up to Oldham Council’s Power to the People collective energy switching scheme.
Recent days have seen a massive surge in sign-ups to the campaign, being run in association with Rochdale Council.
The scheme encourages residents to join a collective bulk-buying group that will bid for a supplier to offer reduced fuel bills - possibly up to £200 a year.
One 24-hour period last week saw more than 1,000 new sign-ups.
The collective will go to auction on Monday, November 26 to get a cheaper deal on gas and electricity from energy companies. The larger the group of subscribers, the more attractive the deal will be to major fuel suppliers.
