Exams row heads to high court
Date published: 08 November 2012
OLDHAM Council’s fight against the country’s exams regulator has taken a step forward.
A judge has ordered an urgent hearing of a legal challenge against Ofqual, following the regulator’s last-minute change to grade boundaries in this summer’s GCSE English exams.
The battle has been backed by the local authority, as well as hundreds of other councils, schools and pupils.
The challengers have lodged papers at London’s High Court calling for a review, focusing on Ofqual and exam boards AQA and Edexcel. If the hearing goes ahead it will begin within weeks.
Around 45,000 pupils are preparing to resit their English exams.
