Help on saying No to cold callers
Date published: 09 November 2012
OLDHAMERS are being urged to shut the door on cold callers.
Oldham Council is supporting the theme of this year’s Trading Standards National Consumer Week: “Cold calling — don’t buy it.”
The aim of next week’s campaign is to enable the most vulnerable consumers to say no to cold-calling doorstep traders and stay safe in their homes.
Officers from the council’s Trading Standards Service will be on hand at Oldham Library, Greaves Street, on Monday (11am- 3pm) and at Failsworth Library, Failsworth Town Hall, Oldham Road, on Wednesday (11am-3pm) to give advice on how to deal with cold callers and doorstep sellers.
Posters and leaflets will be available for free and are also available to download from www.tradingstandards.gov.uk/events/events-ncw.cfm
One of the issues with doorstep callers is that some people feel rude saying “no” when they do not want to buy anything or have any work done.
The message of the campaign is clear: “If you want them to GO, just say NO”.
