Consider yourself my bride!

No-one needed to ask “Where Is Love?” after a Coliseum production of “Oliver!” took to the stage — they could see it was right in front of them, as two cast members became engaged.

Andrew Sloman (40), playing Dr Grimwig, surprised hundreds of audience members when he got down on one knee to ask girlfriend Dawn Leigh (33), playing Nancy, to be his wife.

Totally bowled over by his grand gesture, Dawn, of Royton, wept with joy in front of a audience filled with family and friends before accepting his offer.

Andrew, also of Royton, said: “We have discussed getting married since we got together two years ago, so she knew it would happen some day. I just had to find the perfect time.

“When we were told our society, the Oldham Congress Players, would be doing ‘Oliver!’ at the Coliseum, Dawn auditioned straight away for the part of Nancy. It’s her favourite role and when she was selected, I knew I had to propose during the shows. It had to be then.

“I didn’t want it to be just a run of the mill proposal, I wanted it to be special.

“We met on the stage and we’ve had a very theatrical relationship, so this had to be a big event.”

Dawn said of the wonderful surprise: “I honestly didn’t have a clue. I never expected Andrew to get down on one knee. It was absolutely brilliant.

“I remember the crowd absolutely exploded. Andrew did it in the most perfect way possible, it’s a dream come true.”
