Poet Lilian Day sent some of her poems to the Queen and received a thank you card from Buckingham Palace.
A ROYTON Royalist who sent a poem to the Queen was stunned to receive a reply from her favourite monarch.
Lilian Day penned a celebratory rhyme alongside a series of photographs to mark the Diamond Jubilee of Elizabeth II.
Under a picture of the Queen and Prince Philip in the carriage on Coronation Day, Lilian wrote ‘Our Queen in golden splendour arrives, with her beloved Duke by her side’.
Under a picture of the newly-crowned Queen and a young Prince Charles looking up at military planes on the balcony at Buckingham Palace, Lilian wrote ‘Oh look mummy, yes its true, the RAF is here for you’.
Lilian, pictured with the letter of thanks from the Queen, said: “I have always loved poetry and have sent many poems to the Royal Family over the years. I have received replies before but nothing like the one I got this time.
“It is a lovely keepsake and I am keeping it in a plastic wallet and putting gloves on before I handle it to keep it in prime condition.”
