3Cs club battles for survival

DEFIANT members of a town centre club are pulling out all the stops to fend off closure.

In September, the committee at 3Cs — the former Coldhurst Conservative Club — in Henshaw Street warned there was a possibility of it being forced to shut due to a lack of finances.

But members are refusing to give up without a fight and have organised a Christmas concert to boost the coffers.

Committee member Paul Whalley has been nominated as the club’s fundraiser and tasked with increasing membership and improving the usage of the club.

He said: “The 3Cs is a brilliant family facility. Children are welcome and that is not the case at other pubs in the area. It is a lovely venue for people to meet and have a drink, but we need enough members to make the club viable.

“We are always willing to listen to what people would like to see happening at the club and I am working on a regular newsletter so that members and people living near by know what’s going on.

“We can’t just rely on word of mouth so we want to get out there into the community.

“Pubs are shutting all over the country and we don’t want to be closed down, the members don’t want to lose the club.”

The concert will take place on Sunday, December 2, from 2pm, with performances from local artists and a Christmas raffle. Entry is £1.

The 3Cs is open Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday with entertainment on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

To become a member — which is £10 per year — contact the club on 0161-624 4241.
