Chronicle snap on royal tour
Date published: 16 November 2012
A CHRONICLE photograph of the Queen has gone on display at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh following a hugely successful stint at Windsor Castle.
The snap, taken by former staff photographer Ted Woolley, shows the Queen inspecting local troops outside the old municipal health department next to Oldham Town Hall in 1954.
It forms part of “The Queen: Sixty Photographs for Sixty Years”, an exhibition to mark the Jubilee celebrations. The image was plucked from thousands to be a part of the exhibition which presents a portrait of the monarch on official occasions and relaxed family gatherings.
The collection of photographs shows the Queen’s involvement in the life of the nation through her many regional visits, while colourful images document her overseas trips.
The photos show a life in progress from one of Britain’s longest-reigning monarchs — second only behind Queen Victoria, who spent 63 years on the throne.
The Chronicle picture has been on display in the Drawings Gallery at Windsor Castle since February.
