Latics backing energy scheme

Date published: 20 November 2012

OLDHAM Athletic players and staff have signed up for cheaper energy bills.

Latics manager Paul Dickov has joined thousands of residents in backing Oldham Council’s Power to the People energy switching campaign.

The League One club is the first major local business to support the initiative, staging a Bring Your Energy Bill to Work Day to encourage players and staff to sign up at Boundary Park — which has been dubbed Ice Station Zebra for its freezing matchday temperatures.

Paul Dickov, striker Dan Taylor and defender Connor Brown were the first to register, with Councillor Arooj Shah, assistant cabinet member, on hand to guide them through the sign-up process, which can be found at www.oldham.gov.uk/ fairenergy.

They have now joined the 6,189 households that have so far registered in a bid to slash their gas and electricity bills by up to £200 a year in a collective bulk-buying scheme.

Paul Dickov said: “This scheme is a brilliant idea — I would encourage all of Latics’ supporters and staff to set aside five minutes to sign-up.”

Councillor Shah said: “Time is running out to register before November 25. We’re urging all local businesses to help us spread the word. If you need leaflets for your workplace or any more information, then call our communications team on 0161-770 4707 or email marketing@oldham.gov.uk.”

A series of information and sign-up events will be held across Oldham for those without internet access. These are being held at:

Today — Chadderton Library (11am-2pm).

Tomorrow — Failsworth Library (11am-2pm).

Wednesday — Greenfield Library (2.15-5pm)
