Turning my life around
Date published: 20 November 2012
A local man has turned his life around and is now helping others to do the same after taking up self-care training provided by Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust.
Stuart Clayton (47) doesn’t mind admitting that he was once a daily visitor to one of Oldham’s addiction-dependency services.
Now, after undertaking self-care training provided by Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust which teaches life-changing improvements to general health, motivation and confidence levels, he’s a new man — and has never looked back.
Stuart said: “Since completing the course, the overall impact on my health and general well-being has been amazing.
“It’s not only transformed my thinking around my eating habits and general nutrition but also helped me to understand the benefits of physical activity and to set goals for myself, which has boosted my motivation levels no end.
“And with the improved confidence I’ve gained through valuable new skills like group management and goal setting, I was able to remind myself of what I’m capable of and what I can achieve.”
Some 2,000 people across Oldham have benefited from the programme tailored to individuals’ needs, covering topics such as health beliefs, barriers to change, stress management, confidence building and lifestyle issues.
