Nurse Joanne sets her sights high

A caring nurse who was so inspired by the work of a local hospice will take part in a terrific trek to raise money for the charity.

Joanne Williams (36) completed work experience as part of her nursing course at Royton’s Dr Kershaw’s Hospice and after seeing the incredible work of volunteers, decided that she, too, wanted to help.

She’ll trek through the Himalayas in aid of Dr Kershaw’s next September, but first must raise a whopping £2,995 to take part.

Joanne said: “When I did my placement at Dr. Kershaw’s I saw the incredible work they do.

“I’ve had links with the hospice over the years and I just love what they do for people.

“I thought it was a peaceful and homely environment that really cared for both patients and their relatives.

“I enjoyed my time there and to me, I saw nursing care at its best.

“When I saw that I could help raise much-needed money for Dr Kershaw’s Hospice by trekking the Himalayas I had to jump at the opportunity.

“I’ve organised a charity fun day to get the ball rolling and we’ll be having lots of different games and activities, a sponsored bean bath and DJ playing music into the night.”

The event will be held at the Britannia Pub, Hollins Road, on Saturday, November 25 and will run all day. You can follow Joanne’s progress and donate to her cause at: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/joannewilliams6
