THE frontman of a Royton band which was the first to be signed on Noel Gallagher’s own record label returns home.
Greg Griffin, singer/guitarist of Proud Mary, performs a solo acoustic gig at Jackson’s Pit tomorrow.
The local musician has toured extensively over the last decade headlining tours and supporting prestigious acts like Neil Young, Stereophonics and Oasis.
Proud Mary’s debut album, “The Same Old Blues”, was produced by Gallagher himself in only 10 days and released in the summer of 2001.
It went on to earn a gold disc, reached number nine in the indie album charts and spawned standout hits “Very Best Friend” and “All Good Things”.
Now London-based Greg feels like he is coming home with this intimate gig.
He said: “It’s a great chance to air some new material which is yet to be released as well as some old favourites — it’s always a great night in there.”
Joining Greg on the bill is blues legend Victor Brox, who has played alongside Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton.
The 72-year-old, originally from Tameside, said from his home in France: “It’s a delight to return to Oldham.”
Catch the two acts in action at the Barn Street venue, in Oldham, from 9am until late. Admission is £3 on the door.
