A STUDENT aiming to make a difference in the world has been picked to take part in the student version of the United Nations.
Shazar Tariq (20), from Werneth, will travel to Melbourne, Australia, next March as a global ambassador to the annual World Model United Nations (MUN) conference.
The University of Manchester economics student will lock minds with delegates from more than 65 countries — investigating and debating issues that impact the world’s population.
Shazar’s global outlook has already seen him take part in a number of high-profile events, including a Pakistan Future Leaders Conference at Oxford University.
He also won an award as the best intern when he embarked on a global community development internship in Turkey, motivating other students to show creativity and adventure.
Shazar, of Netherfield Close, said: “I have a particular interest in economic development and aspire to one day work in the United Nations as a development economist. Being chosen for such a delegation is truly a dream come true for me.
“I am certain this experience will be one I will treasure for a long time and will help me achieve my ultimate goal of making a difference in this world.”
Costs to attend the conference, founded in 1991 by Harvard University, are around £1,500 — with the University of Manchester funding a third of the fees. Shazar is appealing for sponsorship to help him attend the conference. Email him at: shazar.tariq@student.manchester.ac.uk.
