Four held over muggings spree
Date published: 29 November 2012
Four men have been arrested by police investigating up to 94 muggings in Oldham town centre since June.
All the victims were schoolchildren or elderly people, with the attackers using threats but no weapons
It is believed three of the men acted together while the fourth acted alone. Police said there was a 2 per cent spike in street robberies between April and last week, when the four were arrested.
Since the arrests there have been no town-centre muggings.
A police source believes there could have been up to 94 muggings since June.
All four, from Oldham, were caught as a result of a police operation. The solo male was charged while the other three were released on bail.
Locals are now advised to be aware of their surroundings and to stick to well-lit streets.
