THE first flakes of snow fell in Oldham at the weekend as youngsters hurried to the town centre’s winter wonderland.
Oldham Council opened up a large snow globe for families to enjoy and have a free festive souvenir photograph.
Smiles were all over the faces of the children as they also met princesses and magical characters on the town’s Fairytale Weekend.
Derek Lamb, great-grandfather of Cameron Radcliff (4) was impressed by the festive events.
He said: “You don’t get many things for free nowadays, so this is very welcome.
“You can just see so many youngsters happy, which is always a wonderful thing.”
Sara Hewitt, town centre manager, added: “This is the first in a series of free events Oldham council are putting on during December.
“We have free parking on Saturdays on all council-owned car parks in the town centre.”
Next weekend take in the Winter Wonderland and skate on a synthetic ice rink and enjoy brass bands.
The town centre will turn back the clock the following weekend for the Victorian Christmas Weekend
