AMBUSHED: Shafaat Chaudhry, who along with his wife was robbed at gunpoint.
A ROYTON couple were robbed at gunpoint in a terrifying ordeal abroad.
Shafaat and Fauzia Chaudhry were ambushed by masked men moments after leaving Karachi Airport in Pakistan. The couple’s passports, clothes, mobile phones, a large amount of gold jewellery and £2,000 in cash were taken.
Their traumatic ordeal, on Tuesday, left Shafaat, owner of a travel agency in Manchester Street, Oldham and Fauzia, manager of the Fatima Women’s Association in Glodwick, fighting to get home without travel documents.
They managed to get seats on a flight today after help from the High Commission for Pakistan.
Shaezad, an event coordinator for the annual Oldham Mela, said his parents were shaken and wanted to get home.
He said: “Within minutes of driving away from the airport they were surrounded by the gang. They shoved a gun to my parents heads, demanding their belongings.
“I don’t know how many of them there were, but there was a lot, they said.
“You hear about these type of incidents and you never think it’s going to happen to someone you know.”
The couple were meant to enjoy a family and business trip.
Shaezad added: “My brother, two sisters and I have just been left in shock about what has happened.”
