A Chadderton couple celebrated 70 years of wedded bliss on Friday.
John (94) and Alice (91) Cooper were married at the Oldham Registry Office on December 7, 1942.
The couple lived in Garforth Street, Chadderton for 43 years — though John spent several years away in the army. Alice worked at Orb Mill, and when John left the army he too worked in the cotton industry.
They later moved to Apfel Lane, where they have lived for the past 27 years.
The couple have a daughter, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The family celebrated at the Apfel Lane Community Centre on Friday with family, friends and neighbours. John said they have always been “very happy”.
