Tram-users attacked for illegal parking

AN investigation has been launched into illegal parking that caused problems for businesses close to Oldham Mumps’ Metrolink stop.
Businessman Andrew Conway says the problem in Hamilton Street has worsened considerably since the trams rolled in earlier this year.
Mr Conway, owner of B Conway Group (Tail Lifts), said articulated lorries struggled to get on to his site and deliveries and collections at the nearby Royal Mail sorting office had become more difficult.
He said: “Basically the general public are parking in our private parking land, parking on double yellow lines and in the sorting office’s car park, then getting on the Metrolink. We, as any company would, are becoming increasingly frustrated.”
Oldham Council’s parking teamis to investigate.
Mr Conway has asked Oldham Council to provide increased parking around the temporary stop, but there are no plans to construct a car park.
A large car park will eventually be built for the new Mumps interchange when the trams start to run through the town centre in 2014.
