PAYBACK . . . Ged Barnes
A ROYTON trader has been ordered to pay back thousands of pounds after leaving work unfinished.
Ged Barnes — who trades under the name Windows Direct Installations — failed to answer a summons at Oldham County Court on Friday.
District judge Stockton made an order in his absence that a total of £3,765.03, which includes eight per cent interest since June, be paid to the complainant, Scott Wade from Middleton.
Despite the work being started on Mr Wade’s new conservatory, Mr Barnes — who has a history of unfinished jobs — failed to complete it and later sent a cheque to pay back the cash, which bounced.
Scott and his partner had to take out a second loan of £5,000 to have their conservatory finished by another firm.
Speaking after the court case, Mr Wade said: “We have had our day in court but it won’t end here.
“Justice hasn’t been served until I get that cash back. After 14 days I’ll be looking at my options again and if it comes down to bailiffs, then that’s what will happen.”
Mr Barnes, speaking after the hearing, said he had not been notified to attend court on Friday.
“I’ve had correspondence that I had to sign to do with the case but nothing with a date on it for Friday,” he added.
“I am going to pay him back as soon as I can but it won’t be within 14 days.
“I do apologise and I have many a time.”
