CCTV shows shocking pistol-whipping attack
Date published: 31 December 2012
POLICE have released footage of a man being pistol-whipped as he arrived home in Failsworth.
As the 62-year-old parked his car on his drive in Medlock Road, two men, driving a stolen Seat Altea, sped up to the house.
They ran up to the victim, punched and kicked him, before one pulled out a gun and hit the motorist across his head.
The victim’s car keys to his Range Rover were stolen before the thugs got into the Seat and drove off.
The car was later found burnt out on Peakdale Road, Droylsden, but the Range Rover was not taken.
Both men are described as wearing dark clothing and balaclavas with one was of muscular build.
The incident happened on Friday, April 20, at 7pm.
Detective Constable Mike Hayman, from Oldham CID, said: “As the footage shows, this was a violent attack on a man who had just returned home. We do not know whether the gun was real or an imitation but the fact they used it to beat him around the head, causing deep cuts to his head, shows what type of people they are.
“I would ask anyone who may recognise the offenders in the footage or may have seen the actual attack to get in touch with police. Also, if you saw two men abandoning the Seat and setting it on fire, we are keen to hear from you.”
